Hiring Process

The hiring process is super simple just follow the steps below to apply:

STEP 1: Register for a Summer Lifeguard Tryout using the links in Important Dates.

STEP 2: Apply online (application at the bottom of page) or in-person at your try-out.

STEP 3: Interview will be scheduled after the successful completion of your tryout.

STEP 4: After successful completion of tryout, interview, and paperwork, all new employees must attend the Lifeguard Orientation Training on June 9.

Jobs & Qualifications

Lifeguard ($16.50+)

Lifeguard II ($17.10+)

Senior Lifeguard ($17.72+)

Assistant Pool Manager ($18.27+)

Responsibilities

  • Perform usual lifeguard duties at a public swimming pool.
  • Provide explanation and clarification of pool procedures to patrons.
  • Maintain respect and discipline.
  • Enforce pool rules and regulations, resulting in a safe and fun environment.
  • Rescue swimmers in distress and administer First Aid and CPR when necessary.
  • Assist with general maintenance and clean-up of the facility. 
  • Instruct CRPD classes in diving, swimming, lifesaving, and water sports.
  • Administer deep water test to swimmers of questionable ability.
  • Participate in training sessions.
  • Qualifications
  • At least 16 years old
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification
  • First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) within six months of hire 
  • CA Driver’s License and Proof of Insurance are required if driving on behalf of the district.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the duties of a Lifeguard.

Qualifications

  • At least 16 years old
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification
  • Water Safety Instruction (WSI) Certification
  • Minimum of 140 hours of lifeguarding experience
  • First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) within six months of hire 
  • CA Driver’s License and Proof of Insurance are required if driving on behalf of the District

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties of a Lifeguard II.
  • Assists in staff training and in-service sessions.
  • Monitors and facilitates staff breaks and rotations during public swims.
  • Tests and documents daily water chemistry readings.
  • Assists in general pool operations and aquatics programs.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years old
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification
  • Water Safety Instruction (WSI) Certification
  • Minimum of 500 hours of lifeguarding experience
  • First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) within six months of hire 
  • CA Driver’s License and Proof of Insurance are required if driving on behalf of the District
  • Responsibilities
  • Performs the duties of a Senior Lifeguard.
  • Provides explanation and clarification of pool procedures.
  • Maintains organization and control of the pool and programs.
  • Assists with office paperwork and staff training.
  • Enforces pool rules and regulations for the public and staff.
  • Qualifications
  • At least 18 years old
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification
  • Water Safety Instruction (WSI) Certification
  • Minimum of 1000 hours of lifeguarding experience.
  • First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) within six months of hire 
  • CA Driver’s License and Proof of Insurance are required if driving on behalf of the District

 

Tryout Requirements

  • 300-yard continuous swim (freestyle)
  • 50-yard Breaststroke
  • 50-yard Back Stroke
  • 2-minute tread with hands in the armpit
  • 10lbs. brick retrieval from 10-13ft of water
  • 5 enter and exits from the side of the pool (no ladder)
